Retaining Walls and Structures
DLC was awarded our first contract with G2 Energy to undertake Civil works in preparation for a new Wind Turbine at Hill House, Pencoed. The Wind turbine will provide low carbon electricity for up to 500 homes and is helping achieve such plans as the Welsh assemblies “Energy Wales: A low Caron transition”
The works included a Wind Turbine Civil foundation, Combined Substation plinth foundation and cutting a trench to allow electrical connect to the National grid. DLC carried out the project in connection with our sister company Darlow Lloyd and Sons, who were contracted to form new entrance roadways, access tracks and a ‘lime Stabilised’ Crane lifting pad. Excavation of the trench (over 200m) included crossing an existing public highway. DLC undertook traffic redirection measures, liaising with the local council highway department to mitigate disruption to local road users. DLC also undertook consultation with the local residents to inform them of works being undertaken.
Overhead cables passed over a number of areas of site, mitigation measures were undertaken in line with HSE Guidance Note GS6 to ensure that vehicles operated within safe distances relative to the height and rated voltage of the lines. DLC undertook method and risk assessments for all identified risks and operations.
DLC’s Sub-contract commenced on 7th July 2014 and was successfully completed on the 28th August 2014 intime for the Turbine delivery date. Erection of the Wind Turbine commenced during the middle of September And the project has been successfully energised in October 2014 and is providing power to the National Grid.
During the Project duration, DLC tendered for another Turbine Project with G2,in Bryn Ysgawen, near Caerphilly. DLC have since been awarded this project and we look forward to developing a long lasting relationship with a Successfully Client in the Renewable sector.
